Government funding starts the term after a child’s birthday, but you can pay for a place before you receive funding if you chose to.
The main times children start are September, January and April but children can start at different times by arrangement.
We have a breakfast club open from 8.00 a.m. and an after school club open until 5.30 p.m. We are a school, so only open during term time.
Children usually settle in quickly and parents/carers are welcome to stay with children during their settling in period.
Our Weekly Learning Rhythm & Attendance
At our maintained nursery school, we plan our learning on a weekly cycle. This helps children enjoy a wide range of experiences — from developing early literacy and maths skills to building confidence, independence and friendships.
We know family life can be busy, and we are proud to offer a flexible attendance pattern to support our community. However, we want to be open with families about what works best for children’s learning and development.
To help your child get the most from nursery, we recommend:
- 15-hour children: Attending every morning, Monday–Friday
- 30-hour children: Attending 9am – 3pm every day
Children who attend every day often:
⭐ Experience the full range of the week’s learning activities
⭐ Build strong, secure friendships with their peers
⭐ Feel part of the group and more confident in routines
⭐ Make greater progress in communication, social skills and independence
⭐ Settle more quickly and feel more emotionally secure
⭐ Enjoy a consistent pattern that supports school readiness
Of course, if you need to use your hours more flexibly, that’s absolutely fine — we understand every family is different. We simply want to let you know that because our planning runs weekly, children who attend fewer days might miss some planned activities or experiences.
Thank you for working with us to help your child grow, learn and thrive. We are here to support your family and give your child the very best start to their learning journey.

We do ask that the attendance pattern you choose using your 15 or 30 hours is set for a full term. You can use your child’s 15 or 30-hour funding to access breakfast and after school club or if you wish you can ‘top-up’ and add any additional sessions on to your ‘core’ offer at the cost of £6.50 per hour.
You can pick and mix sessions to suit your needs. For example, if your child was entitled to 15 hours you could choose to attend:
• 5 x Mornings
or
• 5 x Afternoons
or
• 2 x All Day Sessions and 1 x morning
or
• 1 x full day and 3 x morning sessions
or
• 2 x Breakfast Club and 2x full day then 1 x 1 hour afterschool club
If you want to go over your allocated 15 or 30-hours then that is absolutely fine. Any additional sessions are charged at £6.50 per hour and these can be paid for with childcare vouchers, via tax-free childcare or by cash/cheque. You can either request additional sessions now or simply book in by speaking to the office.
However, if you will need the sessions regularly, we recommend you reserve the spaces now as the Government are planning to increase the availability of funded childcare from April 2024 for working parents and we anticipate that this will mean more children will be eligible for a space and this could therefore limit our availability.
If you need more information on the 30 hours offer, the 2-year-old offer or the new increased offer from April please see https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/
